Jungfraujoch: a train ride up to the glaciers

Glacier views, the Ice Palace and a big mountain journey. How to decide whether Jungfraujoch fits your weather, time and holiday budget.

Jungfraujoch takes a sizeable slice of both the day and the holiday budget, so give the decision a little thought. On a clear day, the Sphinx terrace looks out towards the Aletsch Glacier; the Ice Palace takes you inside the ice. If thick cloud hides the mountains, a day in the valley can be a happier choice. From Grindelwald Terminal, the Eiger Express connects with the Jungfrau Railway at Eigergletscher. You arrive at 3,454 metres, on the saddle below the Jungfrau summit.

What to look forward to

  • Aletsch Glacier views from the Sphinx terrace
  • A walk through the Ice Palace
  • The final railway journey from Eigergletscher

Before you go

Keep the rest of the day light, bring warm layers and sturdy shoes, and take your time at altitude. Before paying, look at the forecast and webcams, railway status and seat-reservation rules. Outdoor activities have their own opening conditions.
