Oeschinensee: give the lake a little time

The gondola from Kandersteg, the walk to the water and the choice between a lakeside visit and the more demanding Heuberg hike.

The last stretch to Oeschinensee is on foot. After the gondola from Kandersteg, the main approach takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes to reach the water, so the walk belongs in the day’s plans too. Once there, you can keep the outing around the shore and take your time with the view. The higher Heuberg panorama trail is a separate mountain hike, with exposed sections that call for experience, stamina and a head for heights. Pick it for your abilities as well as the photographs.

What to look forward to

  • The lake below its steep mountain walls
  • The walk from the gondola to the water
  • Higher panorama trails for experienced hikers, when open

Before you go

Before leaving, check gondola operation, ascent-slot requirements and the live trail report. Snow or closures can change the route completely. A gondola reservation does not include a parking reservation; the lake walk and mountain trails need their own preparation.
